Even before finishing high school I knew that I wanted to choose a profession in a creative, I had 2 passions, architecture and design, it was very difficult to decide which profession pautaria the rest of my life, but after much searching I chose to be an architect.
While I was researching I went to the library to check out some books on both areas, it was the first time I came across the bible of the architectural call Neufert, immediately I took the book home and haven’t stopped leaves, a kind of manual of the construction and measures with constructive techniques, and dimensioning.
Was after knowing the Neufert that I chose architecture. This is one of the best architecture books I have ever read.
In the course of architecture, I crossed again with the book, for each project that we had to do he was essential, so this book is the top of my list of architecture books.
It is a German book, originally published by the architect Ernst Neufert in 1936, which has already been translated into several languages, offers you a broad notion of dimensioning and construction techniques from the foundation up to the roof.
Then write down ai:
1 – the Art of Designing in Architecture, by Ernst Neufert. Publisher GG, that already in its 18th edition in Portuguese, always updating.
In addition to the Neufert has another book that is also a guide to the ergonomics and dimensioning, only considering the internal space relates to the space of the human body with the furniture and the internal areas of the buildings, other work fantastic from the publisher Gustavo Gili, a book called Sizing Human to Interior Spaces.
Will be my 2nd indication because I love technical manuals, they complement each other and enable the creativity.
2 – Sizing Human to Interior Spaces, Julius Panero and Martin Zelnik. Publisher GG.
Now leaving the technical part aside and entering the history book All Over the House, explores the evolution of the residence, from its beginnings up to the present, as we come to the models of homes that we have today, what were the studies and the social changes that led to the current configuration of the space.
The different ways of living of different cultures, super-cool, because it makes us reflect on how we live today and even improving the way that we relate with the space, noting what has already been experienced in the past.
The book contains studies done by renowned architects such as Le Corbusier and Chippendale, shows how they were made, the palaces, the houses of the monarchs and the houses of the peasants. As the technological evolution and the revolution of appliances have modified the configuration of spaces such as the kitchen.
Anyway, it is a book of passionate, who want to check out:
3 – Everything About the Home, Anatxu Zabalbeascoa. Publisher GG.
I am on the third book of my list and only I have indicated the books of the Publishing house GG, is that of the few publishers that has a focus on architecture, it is one of the best, with a repertoire that is complete and good books.
My fourth nomination of books is also the GG of Interior Design, it is also a guide made by Jenny Gibbs. In it you will find a little bit of the history, theory, and practical projects for interior design with the steps for the projects from the planning, choice of materials, and project management.
As I said I’m a fan of guides and this is a worthwhile for anyone who is from the area, another option is nifty for those studying or working in architecture interiors, design book is the Materials in the Interior Design Rachael Brown and Lorraine Farrelly that addresses the properties of materials as were employed in the past and how they are used today, new materials and coating technologies. What are the values that the materials transmit (nobility, simplicity, innovation, empathy). Textures, colors, lighting, and representation techniques of these materials.
So if you like that area write down the name of these books:
4 – Interior Design – useful Guide for students and professionals, Jenny Gibbs. Publisher GG.
5 – Materials of Interior Design Rachael Brown and Lorraine Farrelly. Publisher GG.
Now I’m going to spend 2 books more interesting technical for the professionals linked to the construction, one of them was one that I used in college, always indicated by the teachers, which is called Structural Systems by Heino Engel, a book that addresses structural systems of a practical way for architects, with illustrations and text that help you understand the structures in an intuitive way, super interesting for the proposition structural architectural projects.
While the book Atlas of Construction Details, written by Peter Beinhauer that deals with the construction details in the building, it is rich in technical details that are often left aside by those who design them. As impermeabilizações, connections between different materials and shows with a wealth of detail for the graphical representations of these connections, and finishes.
6 – Structural Systems, Heino Engel. Publisher GG.
7 – Atlas of Construction Details, Peter Beinhauer. Publisher GG.
Continuing the list has a book of fantastic landscaping which is called Ornamental Plants of Brazil, another manual fantastic that brings together species herbaceous, shrubby and climbing plants with tips on planting, size, species, climate, and popular names and scientific. This book has been updated and renamed as Plants for the Garden in Brazil, written by Harri Lorenzi for the Institute Plantarum.
Instituto Plantarum also has other editions of the fantastic that brings together species of trees in brazil, the books that accompany the landscape projects in Brazil. The book Plants for the Garden in Brazil enters the list for being a complete and essential for students and landscape architects in brazil.
8 – Plants for the Garden in Brazil, Harri Lorenzi. Instituto Plantarum
In the ninth position of this list of books I highlight a book on urban design, Urban Sketching – the Complete Guide Techniques of Urban Design and architecture is to express ideas through drawings, while the architectural design offers the builder an exact idea of how to build, the sketch is the one that causes the client to understand the proposed ideas. Therefore knowing how to draw is important for any architect.
This book brings together the techniques of drawing, sense of color and drawing materials, both of external areas and internal areas, green areas, urban areas, people and landscapes. With examples of drawings in different vanishing points. In addition to this the publisher has another book specifically targeted for landscape design “The Design in the Design of the Landscape” by Edward Hutchison.
Those who want to learn to draw or improve your drawing technique the tip is this:
9 – Urban Sketching – the Complete Guide Techniques for Urban Design, Thomas Thorspecken. Publisher GG.
The other book is very widespread in the faculties of architecture is the Manual of the Barefoot Architect by Johan Van Lengen, which deals with the bioclimatic architecture, namely, architectural projects that use the construction of efficiently providing thermal comfort while minimizing the impact to the environment, through techniques of sustainable building.
10 – Manual of the Barefoot Architect, Johan Van Lengen. B4, Editors.
These are my indications of architecture books that brings together a hint of architecture, building systems and structural, interior design, drawing, ergonomics and sustainability.
