A Tour of the Carnival of Venice with Consuelo Blocker

My grandfather is Venetian. So much so that when he died, he asked to be cremated and buried in Venice. Logical, therefore, that I have a connection with this stunning city. Despite this, it had never been in one of his most important demonstrations, Carnival. This year, thanks to a emuprrãozinho of Bontempo, I went!

Of Florence are only 2 hours by train. We went in the morning and come back at night. During the weekend is very busy. So we choose to go on a Friday. It was perfect. We walk the streets, lunch and even had a delicious appetizer with Primer (a Venetian type).

The station where you catch the vaporetto (that would be like a bus that sails through the canals) is already in Venice. You can take this transport or a water taxi to reach the Center. But I wanted to see the alleys and shops, alleys and canals with their pointed Windows and oriental perfume. I love to walk see the locations, wondering what life is like in this town. While I thought this passed, the DHL delivery. Was a Mister with a trolley full of boxes. He was going up and down the bridges, which are all made of stairs. Nothing easy. I figured more: old people here must all be in good shape.

I called a friend of mine, Isa Discacciati, Italy per Amore blog and is the city guide. She lives in a nearby town and meets Venice very well. So we avoid wasting time, precisely, in losing (something that I love to do in small towns, but that wasn’t the case today with the hours counted). We were doing a zigzag while she showed us the masks made in Venice, warning not to buy those made in China, they work the sites.

We went through wide-not are called squares, but campuses. And as we arrived closer to the Piazza San Marco (the one which is called effectively square), where everything happens, we begin to see more and more people in costume. So we decided to put our masks!

My choice and my look was very practical. I knew it was going to be a day half pulled, with the departure and arrival of train, in addition to the kilometers of wanderings. I decided on a visual all black with a colorful scarf. Then chose between feather shades that I got as a gift at a wedding last year, one that matched the scarf. You know what I think at the end was nice? The look all black helped create the mystery, just my smile of happiness not combined. Explain.

Piazza San Marco was thrilled with a population present and involved, the younger to the older. The Piazza is the heart of the city. All get out there to pose and be photographed. Strangely, and ironically, reminded me a lot of streetstyle photographers and bloggers outside of the fashion shows. After all, the vanity is something very human. But what’s so fascinating? Are the masks! Especially those which cover the entire face.

The Cancel of facial expressions creates a distance and a mystery. The characters, despite your elegance, are also frightening. Even threatening. Because without the expressions, we can’t distinguish their intentions. And those that use only masks in the eye smile. All that air of mystery is even more exciting and alluring with the beauty of the city.

The Carnival of Venice started in 11 century-last two months at the time. Declined in 18 century, when large dances took place in Piazza San Marco. Regained strength later in 1979. Today it lasts two weeks. People from all over the world come, dress up and walk slowly to be observed. Music and theater, but nobody’s dancing. Currently the region veneta organizes various exhibitions of artisans around the Piazza, in addition to electing to Mary, who is the Angel of the following year and that “fly” on a rope, going from the tower to the stage, indicating the beginning of the festivities. Who makes your clothes is the tailor Francesco Briggi of Atelier Pietro Longhi.

The costumes are often reproductions of ancient times – no superheroes or fictional or mythological figures, off a Harlequin here or there. Actually, it’s an ode to elegance and, who knows, to seduction! After all, this is the town of Casanova.

We returned to the station always walk. Upon his return, was a delight to sit on the train and rest, thinking about all that we had seen. It was a perfect day, wonderful! Once again, thank you, Bontempo. You always recognizing the beautiful worth to be observed and shared!
