Make an Advent Wreath out of Balls – Ideas with Instructions

In December the house is festively decorated and placed on the table an Advent wreath. He plays an outgoing role and is an inseparable part of the Christmas decoration. Traditionally, it is shaped in circular form – a symbol of infinity, closely linked to Christianity. Four candles are placed on the wreath – one for each Sunday.

Adventskranz from balls – natural materials in use

The custom of setting up a wreath during the Advent season is relatively recent – known since 1848. Originally, on a plaited ring made of fir, a total of 28 candles – 4 large white and 24 small red. The thick white candles symbolized the Sundays and the small – the workdays. In the evening they were lit one after the other. On the Sunday before the Christmas Eve, all the candles burned to exude cozy light throughout the room. The candlestick hung in the churches as candlesticks and had a diameter of a few meters. People wanted to transfer this tradition to their homes, so the size of the wreath and the number of candles had to shrink.

Today, the Advent wreath consists of four candles, usually white or red, traditionally arranged in circles. It can vary in its shape, as well as made from all materials. Products made from small used objects and natural materials are particularly creative. Christmas balls make for a good mood and draw attention through its glossy, mirroring look. Colorful and cheerful, however, not only look at Christmas tree balls, but also others from various materials.

If several strolls are produced, it is advisable to use woolen yarn in different colors, but with the same thread thickness. Wool is natural fiber and unlike these with artificial origin, it is hardly flammable, does not burn, but only char. In the environment of flaming candles, this property is essentially an advantage.

As a different kind of soft pompoms, the cheerful felt balls are colored in colorful colors. These can either be manufactured by themselves or bought by hand. Felt balls usually have a diameter of 1.5-2 cm and can therefore be joined close together. They simply use a needle and thread. Our tip: start arranging the felt balls on the lower side to create stability and hold.

Instead of the traditional Christmas tree balls, others can be used with a similar shape when crafting an Advent wreath. Natural materials such as whale and hazelnut, acorn, chestnut and cones are easy to find and are perfect for a variety of crafting projects. These must only be dry and clean from the dust so they can be glued together.

Needed materials for an Advent wreath made of balls

The basis is a Styroporkranz with a diameter of your choice. A candle holder is inserted in four points with the same distance between them. Then comes the whole collection of nuts – whale and hazelnut, acorns, chestnuts, almonds, all of which are placed close to each other on the Styroporkranz. Use hot glue or moment adhesive for this purpose.

When gluing the nut nuts it is advisable to apply the glue (especially the hot glue) to the nut, then just before it hardens, fix it to the polystyrene and press gently. Small Christmas balls can be inserted between the nuts to make the structure even more interesting. When all are placed close together, and the adhesive is completely dry or hardened, the Advent wreath can be designed in color.

Modern Advent wreath with self made balls – instructions

In the modern variant of the Advent wreath, the circular shape is not obligatory. The number of candles remains firm and the rest of the design is more or less overshadowed by the personal taste. Here we offer a very simple, slick, even puristic variant, which can be realized in a few minutes.

Send Advent wreath in decor bowl with white decosand, candles and silver Christmas tree balls by yourself

For this modern variant of the traditional Advent wreath, as always, four beautiful, big candles are needed, deco sand, Christmas ball and a decorative shell. It would be nice if all the materials matched each other colorfully, preferably in color harmonies. Put the sand in the bowl and arrange the candles next to each other. The balls simply hang on the candles and finished is the minimalistic Advent wreath!
