Tours to Zambia

As experienced tourists say, it is impossible to know the greatness of Africa without visiting this country. Therefore, tours to Zambia are so popular among admirers of an amazing cocktail of exotic animals, untouched places and the most modern hotels!

Holidays in Zambia can be multifaceted and extraordinarily bright: the mighty Victoria Falls and the sources of the Zambezi River, the Ngonye Falls and archaeological sites open to visitors, exotic animals and rare African vegetation. Every year, the tour operator in Zambia books many tours to this wild African country – after all, it is there, on the Zambezi River, that fishermen not only from Moscow and other regions, but also from all over the world try to catch their luck in the form of an African tiger fish or a huge catfish every year.

Can wild antelopes, zebras and giraffes roam freely around the territory of the hotel complex? Of course they can, if it’s Zambia! Several years ago, luxurious Zambezi Sun and Royal Livingstone hotels were built in Livingston, which are distinguished by a European level of service and African flavor. Bustling Lusaka with many art galleries and the Kamwala open market, old Livingston with museums, national parks and, of course, the very air of real Wild Africa can turn a trip into an adrenaline rush and fireworks of emotions!

Visa. Citizens of Russia to visit Zambia require a visa, which can be obtained directly at the border (at Lusaka International Airport or at any other border crossing) or in advance, at the consular section of the Embassy of Zambia in Moscow. Getting a visa at the border usually does not cause any difficulties – you need a passport and a return ticket. Also on the spot you can get a double and multivisa. It makes sense to apply to the consular department for a visa for 90 days, the visa fee is identical to that charged at the border.

It is possible to issue a single visa to Zambia and Zimbabwe, which makes it possible to travel through the territory of the two countries without restrictions and visit Botswana for a day. The cost of KAZA Visa is $50. You can get a single visa only at border crossings; they are not issued at the Zimbabwean embassy and the consulate of Zambia.

Vaccinations. No preventive measures are required by law to visit Zambia. Vaccinations are required only for tourists arriving from areas where yellow fever is common. In Zambia, travelers are advised to take malaria prevention measures, such as taking antimalarial pills, especially in national parks and river valleys.

Climate. It rains in Zambia mostly in December, January, February and March, although the further north you are, the earlier the rains come and the later they leave. The eastern regions and higher regions generally receive more precipitation than the western and lowland regions.

By April and May, most of the rain has gone, leaving behind a still green landscape that is just beginning to dry out. Nighttime temperatures begin to drop, especially in higher and more southerly locations.

In June, July and August, the nights get much cooler, but the days are clear and warm. Don’t forget to bring warm clothes with you to wrap up if you go out at night because some nights can be very cold! Most of the smaller “walking camps” in Zambia open in early June, when the roads are dry enough to allow access. This is the beginning of the “peak season” for the country – with more cloudless days and an ever-increasing number of interesting animal species.

Temperatures rise in September and October: low-lying rift valleys – the Lower Zambezi, Mana Pools and Luangwa Valley – can get very hot in October. However, you will have a great safari as the animals concentrate around the limited water sources.

The weather in November changes; it can be hot and dry, like in October, or it can rain for the first time in a season. This is a very interesting month as you can see both types of weather in one trip.

How to get there. Zambia has five international airports: Lusaka, Livingston, Mfuwe, South Luangwa National Park (Luangwa) and Ndola.

Visit time. The best time to observe the wildlife is during the dry season from June to October, but the rainy season (December to April) with its lush vegetation and animal migrations from the north also makes for exciting trips. However, it must be borne in mind that some protected areas become inaccessible at this time and the cottages are closed from November to April.

The Victoria Falls are most impressive in April and May, when the grandiose spectacle of a huge mass of water falling from a height into the abyss is especially striking. At this time, he fully justifies his name “Smoke that thunders.” The curtain of water dust at some moments is so dense that the entire waterfall cannot be seen. A raincoat and an umbrella will come in handy here. However, at the end of the dry season, from October to December, you can clearly see and appreciate the splendor of the outlines of the rocks and gorges of the waterfall. In general, the most acceptable time to visit the country is from April to September, when the heat of the day is relatively bearable.

Currency. The monetary unit is the Zambian kwacha (K), equal to 100 ngwee with the international symbol ZMW. In circulation there are banknotes in denominations of 100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and 2 kwachas and coins in denominations of 1, 50, 10 and 50 ngwee. However, some prices are often quoted in US dollars, so it is possible to use US dollars and British pounds. January 2019 1 USD = approximately 11.9 ZMW.

In cities, you can exchange cash and travelers checks at Barclays Bank and Standard Chartered Bank branches. Large branches have ATMs that accept Visa cards. Exchange offices are easy to find in cities.

Banks are usually open on weekdays from 08:00 to 15:30 and from 08:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays. Banks are closed on Sundays and public holidays.
